This minor allows students to explore the field of education. It would also be useful for students who would like a basic set of education courses as background for a career that involves instruction, but does not require certification to teach in public schools. Contact the Teacher's College Student Services Center, 105 Henzlik (472-8624), for information about teacher certification.

1996-97 and Later Bulletins

Plan A Minor (19-20 hours)
Students pursuing the Plan A minor should complete the basic core first.

I. Basic Core Courses (13-14 hours minimum)

1. EDUC 131 Foundations of Modern Education or CURR 331 Cultural Foundations of American Education or CURR 431 History of Education in the United States (3 hours)
2. EDPS 250 Fundamentals of Child Development for Education and EDPS 197 Professional Practicum Experiences (4-5 hours)
   or
   EDPS 251 Fundamentals of Adolescent Development for Education and EDPS 297 Professional Practicum Experiences II (4-5 hours)
3. EDPS 362 Learning in the Classroom (3 hours)
4. CURR 330 Multicultural Education or CURR 430 Introduction to Philosophy of Education (3 hours)*

II. Choose 6 hours from the following:

• curriculum and instruction
• educational psychology
• health education (except HLTH 170)
• physical education
• special education

Plan B Minor (1996-97 and 1997-98 Bulletins only)
Complete the 13-14 hours Basic Core from the Plan A minor.

Pass/No Pass
A student may apply up to 6 hours of pass/no pass credit towards a minor in education.

*Note: There is a typographical error in the 1996-97 and 1997-98 Bulletins. These Bulletins read that a student must take CURR 330 and CURR 430. The Bulletins should read that a student may take CURR 330 or CURR 430 (as listed above).

1988-89 to 1995-96 Bulletins

Education Minor
The Education Minor underwent revisions that went into effect with the 1996-97 Bulletin. Because of course and curriculum changes in Teacher's College, we recommend that all students follow the "new" Education Minor (appearing in the 1996-97 Bulletin and later Bulletins) and its requirements as listed on the front of this sheet. Students under Bulletins from 1988-99 to 1995-96 can automatically follow the "new" Education Minor without the need for an individual substitution request.

Plan A Minor (18 hours)
Students pursuing the Plan A minor should complete the basic core first.

I. Basic Core (9 hours minimum)

1. EDUC 131 or CURR 331 or CURR 431 - 3 hours
2. EDPS 250 (previously EDPS 261), EDPS 450, EDPS 451, or PSYC 289 - 3 hours
3. EDPS 362 - 3 hours

II. Choose 9 hours from the following with at least 3 hours from each or two subareas:

1. Foundation Courses-
   CURR 438, CURR 440, CURR 432, EDPS 434
2. Methodology-
   CURR 321, CURR 441, CURR 480, CURR 482, CURR 359, Statistics (Choose from: EDPS 459, or STAT 180, or STAT 380)
3. Behavioral Science-
   EDPS 454, EDPS 463, EDPS 464, HLTH 212, HLTH 326, HLTH 360, HLTH 403, - HHPT 279, HHPT 266, HHPT 363, HHPT 376, SPED 479, SPED 483, SPED 489

Plan B Minor (12 hours)

1. EDUC 131 or CURR 331 or CURR 431 - 3 hours
2. EDPS 250 (previously EDPS 261), EDPS 450, EDPS 451, or PSYC 289 - 3 hours
3. 6 additional hours chosen from the list of courses in the Plan A minor.

Pass/No Pass
Courses in the education minor may be taken on a pass/no pass basis only with the permission of the College of Arts and Sciences. Request forms are available in 107 Oldfather.
