Pre-Professional Programs

Blackboard log in
Blackboard is an intercampus web resource for currently enrolled students. Every registered student already has an account through Blackboard, my.unl.edu. Blackboard sites are used for individual courses, clubs & organizations, and pre-professional advising.  Students who have a declared interest in a Pre-Health area or Pre-Law have access to the pre-professional Blackboard sites. The Pre-Professional Blackboard sites feature updates, announcements, curriculum information, as well as a comprehensive listing of Arts & Sciences Advising Center sponsored Pre-Professional events & activities.

Beyond Academics
Undergraduate academic grades are an important component of professional school applications but professional programs also look for well-rounded students.  Extracurricular activities and work experiences are also important to help students develop the skills and strengths that professional schools are looking for in applicants.

Pre-Health

Program Information
Information for each of the 13 pre-health areas offered at UNL that will prepare students for professional schools and health programs. Some of these professional schools may require only one or two years of undergraduate study before you can enter their program. Others require an undergraduate degree. In either case, the Arts and Sciences Pre-Professional Advisers are available to work with students interested in the health professions. They assist students in preparing for a career in the health professions, major choice, selection of appropriate courses, and application for professional programs.

Application Process
Applying to professional schools can be a time consuming process.  The Pre-Professional Advisers in the Advising Center can help students understand and complete the application process for the professional programs that they are pursuing.

Humanities in Medicine
Many medical Schools encourage pre-medicine students to major in whatever area interests them, including the humanities. For this reason, Linda and Charles S. Wilson established the Wilson Fund for Humanities in Medicine to support the Humanities in Medicine Program at UNL in 1997.  This program provides coursework in the humanities, speaker events, and shadowing/volunteer experiences to students who are pre-medicine and majoring in one of the Humanities or Social Science areas at UNL.
