Why you chose your major

My family has a rather long history of neurodegenerative disorders--namely Huntington's disease. Though it is inherited and does not affect me, a childhood full of growing up close to my afflicted grandparents was enough to spark my fascination with the mind. Now, as I pursue a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, with minors in Psychology and Spanish, I hope to provide my skills to those in the world who carry a similar fate.

Favorite and/or most impactful course

For me, my first Honors course, "Neuroscience of Zombies" has had a tremendous impact. Not only did it reinforce my captivation with neuroscience and behavior, but it also showed me that college is more than just an education with harder classes--it's an experience full of collaboration, discussion, and discovery.

Research or internship experience

I am currently working in a neurological nanoscience lab headed by Dr. Forrest Kievit. As an undergraduate researcher, I am involved in projects using nanoparticle technology to better understand and mitigate brain cancer and brain injury--particularly in mouse models.

Other involvement

At Nebraska, I am an "A Rank" (1st Part) trumpet player in the Cornhusker Marching Band and Big Red Express. I am also involved in the local Doctors Without Borders Chapter (FoMSF), of which I serve as a director, the Campus Red Cross, Medical Students United with Neighbors Across America (MUNA), and MEDLIFE.

Why you chose Nebraska

With avid interests in research and the sciences, Nebraska provides all of the resources to equip me for the next great steps in my professional journey! With top-tier faculty, well-furnished facilities, and countless opportunities to expand my knowledge and experiences, Nebraska provided what I needed to kindle my curiosity.

Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
