December
Awardee
Jeanie Hock | Senior
Elementary Education
Employed by the Department of Anthropology & Geography
With an amazing TWELVE nominations, our Ovation awardee for December is Jeanie Hock, a senior Elementary Education major working in Anthropology & Geography. As Jeanie's nominations say, "Jeanie has done exemplary work study for the Department of Anthropology and Geography since 2001... I have encountered no one who does the job of work study so well. As Chair, I reserve my most difficult projects for her (most recently our latest Gallup report). I can trust Jeanie not only to get it right, but also to use her imagination on design and other aspects of presentation. (She also occasionally, and politely, corrects my grammar!) Jeanie is also, quite simply, a pleasure to have in the office: she is poised, attentive, intelligent, and in addition has a good sense of humor... I am already dreading the day when Jeanie graduates because of the huge loss our department will incur. We ask Jeanie if we don't know where something is and she is quick to find it! Often, we give her projects and ask her to figure out a way to make them work-- and she does! Her work is fast, accurate and she is a very dependable employee. She is self-motivated and works without supervision. Sure wish we could keep her on staff permanently!...
Jeanie is one of those students you enjoy having had the privilege to know and work with. She is intelligent and quickly grasps what is expected, doesn't hesitate to ask pertinent questions if she needs further clarification, and pays close attention to detail. Jeanie is a self-starter, requiring little if any supervision. She takes the initiative to look for what needs to be done instead of waiting to be told. Her honesty, strong work ethic, helpful and pleasant personality, and pride in a task well done enable you to trust her with any level of project... She only needs to be told once how to do a task and after she has mastered it frequently devises a better way to do it... Without her, our department would not be as close as it is now... Her artistry in signage production has immensely upgraded the looks of the bulletin boards throughout the department... Her talents include, but are certainly not limited to; strong organizational skills, clerical skills, an understanding of the University Procedures, patience and creativity. She was instrumental in organizing the office when Anthropology and Geography merged... We feel very comfortable in giving her any jobs because we know that it will be done quickly, neatly and accurately. There are some jobs that we leave it up to her how she wants to set it up in the computer and the finished products are exceptional... Her work is exemplary - she is always on time, efficient, and willing to try any assignment. She contributes to a very pleasant work environment in the office... She is always professional and thoughtful in her approach... I cannot think of one moment, where I haven't seen her doing some work. When the given job is done, she always looks for more to do. She is very knowledgeable of office operations and handles the front desk on her own when the staff is in meetings..."
