Amber Miller | Senior Psychology
Employed by the Department of Chemistry

Our Ovation awardee for November is Amber Miller, a Psychology major graduating this semester and working in the Department of Chemistry. She received an amazing TEN nominations so this digest is only a small part of her praise. "Amber has become an indispensable part of Chemistry's operations, assisting us with recruiting, publications, our seminar program, and a variety of special projects. This past month, Chemistry hosted a major undergraduate research planning session (35 attendees), a major undegraduate recruiting day (more than 100 attendees), and a meeting of regional chemistry chairpersons. During this period, we were operating short several staff members due to departures and illnesses. Amber stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. She is willing to come early, stay late, or do whatever it takes to get the job done. She takes on major projects (mailing, publicity) that would be over the head of most undergraduates and accomplishes them with enthusiasm and talent. She is a genuine treasure...

"She is unfailingly polite, pleasant, helpful and, perhaps most importantly, thoughtful. She does not just do what she is asked, but she thinks about it and often nicely surprises with that little touch that makes what you wanted done that much better. I have NEVER found her unwilling or even mildly reticent about doing anything that I have requested...

"She is always willing to help with anything, she cheerfully tackles any project that is given to her. She is willing to do it "your way" but often has some helpful suggestions for a better or easier way...

"Amber is always friendly and cheerful, always busy. She is willing to take on "extra" assignments to help people in the department when they need some additional help in completing their project or presentation. Amber is artistic and helpful in suggesting alternate or 'better' ways to arrange work or project appearance for ease of completion or more effective presentation/understanding. She is a good embassador for the Department of Chemistry with visitors and new faculty and students. Amber is definitely an excellent example of the quality of UNL students, the very type of student the Ovation Award was designed to recognize...

"There are very few student workers that I would trust with the types of projects I have delegated to Amber, but her level of skill and professionalism merit the confidence that I have in her. If the Ovation Award is to recognize the contributions of outstanding student employees, then Amber Miller would certainly be a worthy recipient...

"She is the 'go to' student worker. She is intelligent, courteous, respectful, and pleasant. She not only knows what she is doing, but knows what to do before you even ask her to. She knows what needs to be done and does not hesitate to step in and assist our staff when you are juggling a million things at a time. She will be graduating in December and we will miss her terribly. The department would like to send her off which this award to show her how much we have appreciated all that she has done..."
