Johnathon Ross | Graduating Music major
Employed by Chemistry

Our Ovation for April goes out to Johnathon Ross, graduating Music major working in the department of Chemistry. As a small part of his TWELVE nominations say, "Our department has had some remarkable student workers. Yet even within this group, Johnathan stands out in terms of his enthusiasm, his skill, and his dedication. He cheerfully assists with all sorts of departmental activities: routing proposals and offers for signatures; assisting with brochures and booklets; helping with receptions for our seminar program, copying, and many more... Johnathon is willing to help others in any way possible. He is a multi-talented individual who possesses a great range of knowledge in computer science which is very helpful to us when we have computer problems in the office. Johnathon is very friendly to everyone and he always has a positive attitude. He is very good at multi tasking and budgeting his time wisely. He always has a professional personality when dealing with professors and staff personnel... He is involved in the University of Nebraska mens chorus. He is an assistant to the music director at Our Savior Lutheran Church. He plays organ and piano for numerous weddings along with his studies for his classes and working several hours in our department every week... His great smile, personality, devotion, and wit will be missed when he leaves us...

"Whether asked to perform routine services such as photocopying or more challanging ones such as tracking down a student or fellow faculty member he has accomplished what he has been asked to do in a very professional manner. We have many talanted young people at UNL and some of them are outstanding because you can depend on them and do not have to worry about their performance when discretion is important. Johnathon is one of the best... He is the type of individual that welcomes questions and is willing to help fellow students and coworkers. We often find ourselves asking Johnathon to trouble shoot with everything from a computer project to a jammed electric stapler. He is an asset to our office and we will miss him greatly when he graduates in May... He is always willing to do anything and everything that is asked of him from several different people, including staff and faculty. Johnathon makes our job easier and to be honest makes us look good. He prioritizes well and can also switch gears quickly depending on the most pressing need in the work flow. Johnathon was willing to work extra during spring break if the department needed him. Also, if anyone ever has a computer question, we say "Johnathon, help!"...

"Although his title is "student worker", we consider Johnathon as one of the staff. He has often been called upon to work on major projects involving the compilation of information to be put in spreadsheets/data bases for reports. Johnathon is a computer guru who has assisted the staff with troubleshooting as well as streamlining office tasks with creative forms. When given a task Johnathon works independently and just runs with it. Recently I asked him to assist me in obtaining a translation of a diploma from Latin to English. Johnathon called the Modern Languages Department. When he couldn't reach anyone by phone he walked the diploma and translation document over in person. Johnathon tracked down a translator, had the translation certified and notarized, and returned it to me in less than an hour. The importance of this task was that it pertained to a packet of information being sent to the International Affairs Office to expedite a visa renewal with the US Immigration Department..."
