Our Ovation for December goes out to Andrew Robert Smith, a graduating Psychology major working in the School of Biological Sciences. As his nomination reads, "I would like to nominate Andrew Smith for an Ovation award. Andrew is a psychology major who has been working in my lab as an undergraduate research assistant for approximately four years. Over this time period he steadily taken on ever more responsibility, progressing from being one of many undergraduates helping to maintain our cricket colony, to helping with experiments, to conducting his own experiments as a UCARE student, to essentially running my lab (this includes supervising the work of other undergraduates and facilitating the work of the graduate students in the lab). His outstanding work ethic has been a critical component of my lab's research productivity. In addition, of the 50+ undergraduates who have worked in my lab over the past 12 years, Andrew is easily one of the two most dependable and responsible. Finally, his independent research has resulted in one paper that will be published in a top-tier journal, and he is currently working on another project that promises to be publishable in a top-tier journal. I think he is highly deserving of an Ovation award."
