Dustin Franklin | Biological Sciences major
Employed by the Biological Sciences

Our Ovation goes out to Dustin Franklin, senior Biological Sciences major working in Biological Sciences. As his nominations say, "Dustin has worked in my laboratory now for just over one year (since summer 2006). When he began, he simply volunteered, as he wanted research experience for his resume. It was immediately clear that Dustin was incredibly reliable, motivated, interested, and enthusiastic and I soon sought funding to keep him in the lab. He has not only developed his own research project in collaboration with one of my post doctoral researchers, but he is also participating in at least 5 other research projects. Dustin is the type of person that goes beyond the call of duty, consistently. He is willing and excited to help anyone out with anything - whether it be drilling holes in spider cages, measuring opilionids (what we call in the states Daddy Long Legs), bleeding spiders for hormone assays, or running behavioral trials. He takes his work seriously and unlike many other pre-med students that I have mentored, Dustin is genuinely interested and excited to learn. He is willing to come in on weekends, in evenings, etc. if he is needed and I have never once heard him complain. He has integrated himself well into my lab and is beginning to function more like a master's student than an undergraduate. Dustin has certainly gone beyond the call of duty and has consistently provided outstanding help to everyone in the lab. Based upon his own research project, it is likely that Dustin will have his own publication before he graduates - certainly a feat unattained by most undergraduates..."
