Jason Hustedt - March Awardee

Jason
Jason Hustedt

Our Ovation for March goes out to Jason Hustedt, student worker in Chemistry. As his nominations say, "Jason has worked in the General Chemistry Resource Center for 2 years. He has greatly improved the On-line Quiz program, working closely with the Publisher and testing out new programs even before it was available to other subscribers. His knowledge of Chemistry and computers is essential to the job. He works well with several Professors during the semester and gets hundreds of emails daily from students requesting assistance. His work with the on-line quiz system affects over 1200 students during the semester and there are very few complaints. He has also accepted Responsibility for the General Chemistry Website, posting notices and practice Exams & Quizzes for lab and lecture to several of the classes."

"Jason was unfailingly cooperative and always went the extra mile, even though I was sometimes way over deadline for getting material to him. Further, he was unstinting in his willingness to "fire fight" unanticipated problems that arose in running the online quizzes. He approached all aspects of his work with cheer and much flexibility. His sense of responsibility, understanding of the students, and sensitivity to problems of online education were outstanding. Every problem that we have seen come up, he has been knowledgeable and efficient in getting fixed. He is always prepared with things we have asked him to do, and it typically done with them well ahead of schedule. Managing the online homework is often a very "patience testing" environment as students will grumble about problems and/or technical difficulties, but Jason is always positive and polite in his responses and in his work."

"Jason is a bright and responsible young man. His expertise and knowledge of the undergraduate labs, lectures, and materials that support those areas have saved us many hours of work. As a result information is now available in updated format on our website allowing undergraduate students to easily access needed facts, schedules, and other important documents. I have been impressed with his knowledge, maturity, ability and willingness to work with students. Jason maintains high standards for himself and has high expectations of others. He carries himself in a gentle manner that immediately invites confidence and trust. He understands the synergistic relationship that exists between students and teachers and is the quintessential team player, wanting what is best for the team, not necessarily for himself. In summary, Jason is truly an asset to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln."
