Minutes of the Fall Faculty meeting
13 December 2003

The meeting was called to order by the Dean of the College, Richard Hoffmann, at 3:45 p.m.
The Distinguished Teaching Assistant Award was presented to Paul Olson of the Sociology Department by Sarah Elizabeth Sterns of the Student advisery Board.
The first item on the agenda, approval of the minutes of the spring faculty meeting (16 April 2003), passed without comment.
The second item, opening comments, was deferred to the discussion regarding item XV (College Executive Committee's recommendation for Promotion and Tenure Guidelines).
Lloyd Ambrosius of History graciously agreed to be the new Parliamentarian, hence extending his tenure in the office.
Professor David Watkins, College Curriculum Committee, proposed the acceptance of items III-XIV, all dealing with changes in current programs, the new courses for the Integrative Studies list, the change for joining the Essential Studies Area E sub areas, and the new minor for statistics. Approval was unanimous.
Following a brief discussion, the Executive Committee recommendation on Promotion and Tenure was submitted to a mail ballot of the full Arts & Sciences faculty.
