Overview
Anthropology studies the span from human origins and prehistoric cultures to traditional and modern societies.
Anthropologists document human behavior and cultural patterns while preserving cultural diversity and improving people's lives in a constantly changing world.
Possible Careers
You might find work with an international business or government service; work in inter-cultural education or health care; or work for the National Parks Service or the Smithsonian Institute. The American Anthropological Association Career Center has more information.

How the program prepares you for the field
Develop skills in Cultural Anthropology, Physical Anthropology, or Archaeology, then specialize in a cultural or topical area.
The program has traditionally emphasized Great Plains archaeology and the ethnography of Native Americans of the Great Plains.
In-depth training in cultural resource management, applied anthropology, and evolutionary ecology is also available.

Information and socialization in AnthroGroup
AnthroGroup hosts social activities (including an annual conference), tracks conferences and research opp's, produces the Nebraska Anthropologist, and schedules regular talks by faculty and visiting anthropologists.
Chat with professionals at conferences and meetings
The Plains Anthropology Conference is an annual forum for scholars and students to share information via formal presentations and informal workshops, tours, and social events. Home of the Plains Anthropologist journal
The annual Nebraska Academy of Sciences conference has an anthropology section, which is organized by AnthroGroup. You can present research (which often gets published in Nebraska Anthropologist) and be eligible for cash prizes.
Publish your work in Nebraska Anthropologist
The Nebraska Anthropologist is a peer-reviewed journal built to "disseminate student research" and welcomes your original contributions in anthropology. Produced by AnthroGroup.
Field Schools provide hands-on experience
The summer field schools are programs in archaeology and cultural anthropology that offer first-hand experience in the work of anthropology. Field schools have been held in Mexico and in a number of locations in Nebraska.
On-the-job experience through internships
Our close affiliation with the State Historical Society, the State Museum, the National Park Service Midwest Archaeological Center, and other government agencies provides additional opportunities for education through experience in our internship program.
