Overview

English studies is an academic area that focuses on the power, beauty, and endless diversity of human language. It appeals to students who want to study well-crafted literary, expository, and analytical texts, including film, and who want to improve their ability to create such texts as well.

What can you do with the degree?

things to learn

How our program prepares you for the world

Analytic and communication abilities underlie many professions; the ability to effectively write to communicate is crucial to nearly any position and becomes more important with supervisory and management positions.

The English major at UNL, rather than a strict sequence of required courses, is a guided exploration of the extensive field of English Studies, including an opportunity for each student to choose an area of special interest for concentrated study.

English concentrations:

Double majors in areas such as Ethnic Studies and Women's and Gender Studies are also available.

The Writing Center helps the UNL community with their writing skills by offering one-on-one consultations that help with any part of the process - from initial idea to editing the final product.
