Teach English in France

Overview

The cultures of France, Québec, and the countries of French-speaking Africa and the Caribbean all use the French language to express astonishingly diverse social, literary, and cultural identities.

Possible Careers

A wide range of careers are possible. Our graduates have gone on to careers in secondary and post-secondary teaching, business and international business, law and international law, medicine, the natural and physical sciences. You will be well-prepared for graduate studies in French literature and related fields. Many choose to double-major in a second discipline – some in another language or in the humanities, others in the natural or social sciences.

OVERVIEW

How our program prepares you for the field

The curriculum balances culture, civilization, literature, foreign language teaching, and philology.

The French faculty at UNL is an especially active group that has all been recognized for their teaching and for the national and international scope of their research. Nicole Smith, author of the first-year textbook Parallèles, is part of our faculty and would be happy to answer your questions.

Add art, history, and politics with the French & European Studies double major

Conferences

European Studies is an interdisciplinary major designed to provide a concentration in European affairs and culture in a broad historical perspective. You can easily add a second major in European studies to your French major because up to one third of the courses that count toward the French major can also be used for the ES major.

You can use the ES major to situate your study of France in a wider European context by taking courses on the Common Market, European politics, or diplomacy.
