Overview

Benjamin Pierce called it "the science that draws necessary conclusions." It centers on quantity, structure, space, and change.

Possible Careers

Mathematicians work in many fields, such as natural science, engineering, medicine, and the social sciences.

How our program prepares you for the field

Our program is structured to introduce you to the major areas of pure and applied mathematics and statistics by the end of your junior year. Each year we will review your career goals and help you select the courses that will meet your needs.

Our majors often pursue a second major in fields such as physics, computer science, actuarial science, economics or a social science; others have a second concentration in business, law or the life sciences.

We offer a full selection of freshman-through-senior honors courses that are taught in small sections. These courses bring together outstanding teachers and superb students to create a learning environment that students often view as one of their best experiences at Nebraska.

The Math Resource Center provides a free, walk-in tutorial service to all students registered in calculus or pre-calculus courses. It is staffed by graduate students and highly-qualified undergraduate majors.

Math Club
