University of Nebraska–Lincoln

College of Arts & Sciences

UNL's Largest and Most Diverse College

The College of Arts and Sciences awards about a dozen undergraduate scholarships each year. These are in addition to the scholarships and grants available through the university Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid and the department which houses your major. To be considered for any of these scholarships, you must be enrolled full-time with a major in the College of Arts & Sciences and currently attending at the time of application. To apply follow the steps under the Procedure heading.

The competition for A&S scholarships is quite stiff. Out of 500 applications last year, 34 students received an award. In addition to a high grade point average (last year’s cutoff was 3.7), most applicants demonstrate achievement in academics outside the classroom (UCARE, thesis, research, etc.) and leadership in department, campus, or civic activities. You can find the rubric used to evaluate scholarship applications at: http://ascweb.unl.edu/students/scholarship_rubric.pdf

The College of Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office, in conjunction with the College Committee on Academic Distinction & Awards for Students and the program advisor when appropriate, chooses recipients for College scholarships. This group also recommends students for certain scholarships awarded by the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid.
